STATEMENT OF THE ARTIST

William Mandela Matthews seeks to explore the power, strength and duality of Black America. Matthews understands that Black Americans are not a monolith. His works are an examination of the influence of Black American Culture through the lenses of Expressionist Oil, Mixed Media and Digital Painting. His pieces shine light on the global impact of Black American Culture. Matthews believes that his unique approach to figurative painting acts as a conduit. The artist goal is to draw the viewer to the canvas resulting in a visual and spiritual connection between Artist, Canvas and Viewer.
